Ratanakosin Museum and Ancient Arts

The visit to the Ratanakosin Museum provided detailed and organized background information on the history of Thailand, important events in Thai history, the history of Thai masks and puppets, descriptions of life as a part of the royal court, and famous geographic sites.

The museum creatively presented the information, it was an enjoyable experience, and it helped provide a greater appreciation of Bangkok.

We also had a chance to see much of the Ancient Arts collection, including a fantastic chandelier created of gold and iridescent beetle wings. In addition to the wide range of gold items that were a part of the King’s 80th birthday celebration, the Ancient Arts exhibit included a large collection of silk fabric in bright colors and amazing patterns. The purpose of the collection and connecting institution are to support traditional arts in the Thai Kingdom.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures of the royal collection. You will have to take my word for it- they were spectacular.
